I just opened my own substack email and my jaw literally dropped. Down it went and I gave a little gasp in the face of the image before my eyes.
Beside the sun, in an edited version of the logo my book designer designed, was a little yellow bird. I cannot for the life of me remember adding that bird, but somewhere along the way I must have. In the moment of that gasp it felt like some mystical freedom angel had swept into my substack and added a splash of wonder. If I’m being honest I am writing this now, still genuinely confused about where the bird came from…
All of my work in the last decade has been about freedom, but nothing has taught me what freedom really is, more than abortion. Freedom is to have your own back, to trust your future self, to be led by curiosity and compassion, and most importantly to fly free in the face of other people’s judgments.
That yellow bird, she is me. My jaw dropped at the sight of her liberation, her courage to rise above, her endurance to keep going, her ability to step outside limitation and explore what is possible.
